It looks like the ISORA races are to be scrapped due to failing number of attendees.

Is this the end of offshore racing in Irish waters and why has the series failed to attract the attention of offshore sailors.

The biannual round Ireland always has a good attendance. RCYC'c Fastnet race annually gathers twenty to thirty boats while Irish success in the Fastnet with Chieftains recent win leaves questions as to why sailors have shone away from th ISORA series.

If truth be told ISORA has been dead from an Irish perspective for at least the last 5 years. It does n't fit in with how we approach racing here anymore which for the most part is one of the three below.

One the one hand you have club racers who will do all the club races and club open events but will invariably not travel beyond the club.

Next you have the big event racers those who will go to an event (s) but will probably not do much else in between.

Finally you have the offshores who will do one offshore during the year and probably not much else. I would count myself in here.

It seems that people can give the equivalent of a week of time to sailing during a season each of the three areas above in time terms take about a week.

No one is interested or maybe not allowed to be AWOL for 5 weekends during the year on an ISORA. Stangely they don't seem to have that problem in the UK where the RORC is able to run events in much the same way as ISORA had?
