Whats the craic with the race management today (Friday) we were all sent home in 20 knots, okay we were all really wet but we are all well used to yottin in this wind. I bet if it was sunny we would of got all three races. As for the course layout on the class 1, dont get me started... My mates in SB3 class were going nuts... |

| wasnt much better for the week in the half ton cup. On Thursday we had a 45 min race in morning in 5-7 knots of breeze. We were meant to be back in Dun laoghaire before the DL regatta kicked off sowe wouldnt be interfering with space. OD made us hang around over 4 hours in wet cold conditions before kicking a race off in a 25 knot squall. Wasnt much better friday when they sent us up to howth in an increasing easterly. Large sea and over 25 knots of breeze and rain. 2 rigs fell down and a lot of wet and very cold sailors. Race management need a good kicking in dL for cocking racing up over last few days for all classes |

| Another great day of racing on Dublin Bay NOT. Shifty wind conditions, poor OD and race management and a waste of my time, I think I will join the white sails next time and enjoy the great social scene... |

race management was crap.
being sent home when its windy and being kept out when its not kinda sums it up.
question is will we all have forgotten in 2 years time? |

Apparently the reason that we were sent home (from the outer course) on friday, was that the mark laying boats didn't have a compass or GPS. The Race Officer had no idea where they were with the poor vis and thus couldn't lay a proper course.
Nearly all of the legs we sailed were totally one sided, usually laying the top mark in one, and similar runs with no passing lanes.
Sunday we had a race in the fog with no clue where the leeward mark was, so became a lottery as to who found it first. (again, no coordinates of mark from RO). The second race got turned inside out with a 45 degree shift, when previous races had been canned with 30 degree shifts. That, plus the wind dropped to 3.8 knots at one stage, led to a frustrating change in the overall results for our class.
So, Dublin bay lives up to it's reputation for breeze in July..... |
