Over 130 Optimists decended on the Royal St George to defy geography and hold the class's 'Connaught' Championships on Dublin Bay over a very challenging weekend...Over 130 Optimists decended on the Royal St George to defy geography and hold the class's 'Connaught' Championships on Dublin Bay over a very challenging weekend which threw all four seasons at the competitors.
Racing in the Main Fleet racing was very competitive over the 2 day, 6 race programme with local sailor Matthew O’Dowd (aged 13) emerging the overall winner on 10 points from Jamie Aplin (12) on 18 points and KYC’s Cian O’Regan (13) on 21 points. This was Matthews third optimist regional championships win and all three sailors are part of the Worlds 2006 team travelling to Uruguay next December.
In the 28 strong Regatta Fleet Adam Hill RNIYC was the victor over Naoise Mulcrone from the RStGYC. and Mark Condy from Howth.
