‘This year’s West Coast Championship’s is shaping up to be an event to take part in and remember’ Simon Mc Gibney Commodore West of Ireland Offshore Racing Association.

On the water, the Association has again engaged the services of one of Ireland’s top officer of the day, Mr. Alan Crosbie. Alan brings with him a wealth of experience and the respect of all who sail his courses. Alan has been associated with the West Coast Championship’s over the last four years and has added his very professional touch to the racing. The Association and the membership are delighted to see Alan back taking charge as the officer of the day for the scheduled six race, four day event.
Prizes, where the association repays the efforts of those boats that set such high standards. This year is no different to all the pervious years with top class prizes being provided, in each class on a daily basis there will be prizes for first, second, third and on the final prize giving day there is the overall first, second, third in each class in excess of 100 prizes will be giving out over the four day event.
Also there is the overall West Coast Champion / Class Winners in each of the classes. Finally for the production boat’s, there is an added incentive with X-Yacht, Sigma, Beneteau putting up cup’s for the best performing boat overall at the event. Some of the top competitor’s are back again this year. Vincent Gaffney “Alliance” 2006 Class 3 National Cruiser Champion, 2006 West Coast Championships Class 3 winner is making the journey from Howth Yacht Club, Class 3 this year will be a very completive fleet with some new boats entering the frey.Raymond Mc Gibney ‘Disaray” the 2005/6 overall West Coast Champion’s will be back to defend their title, they will have their work cut out as three Corby 25 (one of which is Barry Rose’s Obsession) will be making the trip.
Thomas & Kieran Whelan’s ‘Chaos’ West Coast Championships Class 1 winners are up to speed but will have a lot to do with up to another seven X-Yachts taking part in this class as well as Galway’s two J109’s.A lot of very completive and close racing to be looked forward to with up to sixty boats taking part. This is the first time that the West Coast Championship’s will be hosted by Clifden Boat Club. The crew at Clifden Boat Club has left nothing to chance with the organizing of this event. The picturesque bay of Clifden will be alive with crew from all over the country descending on the town for this memorable event.
