 DUBARRY WEST COAST SUPER LEAGUE 2008

‘AWOL’ Clinches Feint Regatta by .25 of a point from ‘Disaray ‘The inaugural Fenit Regatta which is a part of the Dubarry West Coast Super League was held over the weekend of June 7 and 8 2008. Over twenty five boats took part from Clifden Boat Club, Galway Bay Sailing Club, Foynes Yacht Club, Royal Western Yacht Club and Tralee Bay Sailing Club.


There was a dramatic finish to the final race which saw Liam Burke and crew on AWOL finishing third in IRC Class 1 and Raymond Mc Gibney’s Disaray IRC Class 2 taking a first which when the discard was applied only a quarter of a point  separated the two boats for the overall. To tremendous applause in Tralee Bay Sailing Club, Liam Burke stepped forward to accept the Mr. Denis Buckley Memorial Cup, presented to Liam Burke by Dr. D Buckley.

Over the two days racing, it was light variable winds, with courses being set perfectly by Officer of the day Alan Crosbie, to the delight of all who competed. Windward / Leeward and a coastal race where the order of the weekend.
Local boats had no intention of letting the visitors have an easy time though and they lead in both classes overnight after day one racing, with D. Counihan ‘Scotia’ in IRC Class 1 and Liam Lynch’s ‘Powder Monkey’ in IRC Class 2 showing the way.

Echo Overall’s saw Andrew Bracken’s J35 ‘Joyrider’ taking pole position in Echo Class 1 from Liam Burkes ‘AWOL’ and Mark Prendiville HB 31 Rooster taking pole from Raymond Mc Gibney’s well traveled Dehler 34 ‘Disaray’ in Echo Class 2.
