RORC MISTAKE IN UK IRC OVERALL AWARD TO ROSIE

 With the final results of the UK IRC Championships having been issued and trophies awarded after last weekend’s racing in the Solent, the Royal Ocean Racing Club suffered an embarrassment by having to announce that the overall RORC trophy was wrongly awarded.
Irish boats, including the Rolex Commodores Cup Green and white Teams were indeed to the fore at the event but it was a non RCC boat, Rosie, owned by Roy and Vera Dickson and helmed by David Nixon that was awarded the overall trophy with the Jackdaw Trophy for second overall being awarded to Conor and Denise Phelan’s Jump Juice. News of the error broke on Tuesday following a telephone call to skipper of Rosie, David Nixon, from the RORC CEO, Eddie Warden-Owen. A fresh calculation of the overall points relative to the number of starters revealed that in fact the winner of Class One should have received the overall IRC Trophy last Sunday. Happily for Irish Cruiser racing fans, this meant that another Irish boat, Jump Juice, was the recipient of the overall trophy and Rosie retained her Class Two crown.
The Irish Rolex Commodores Cup Green and White teams were well to the fore at the event with Anthony O’Leary’s Antix Eile taking second overall in Class Zero and Tim Costello’s recently launched new Tiamat doing very well for a newly launched and untried boat to take eighth position in the big boat division of the Irish Green and White teams. In Division One of the Green and whites, the middle boats, it was neck and neck between Eamon Rohan’s Blondie 1V and Conor Phelan’s Jump Juice who were fighting it out for first place all weekend with Jump Juice taking the spoils on count back. In Division Two the small boat division of the Green and Whites, Eamon and Alan Crosbie’s Voodoo Chile was fourth overall while Andrew Allen’s No Naked Flames finished sixth overall.
The next test for the Irish Green and White teams will be the big event, the Rolex Commodores Cup commencing June 29th to July 6th at which 15 teams will be battling to take the coveted trophy.
