This weekend, Laser SB3’s from around the country will make the trip to Lough Ree Yacht Club near Athlone for their Midland Championships. This is the final ranking event in the classes first season in Ireland and the class has proved to be hugely successful with over 70 boats in Ireland. A fleet of 25 to 30 boats are expected from Cork, Dun Laoghaire, Howth, Northern Ireland and the Mid West. Six windward/leeward races will be sailed over the two days on Lough Ree.
Glenn Bourke, SB3 expert and CEO of the Volvo Ocean race will be competing in the event and he will give a pre-dinner talk on Saturday night also. The event promises to be very competitive with a number of Ireland’s top sailors taking part. The class is very grateful to Helly Hansen for providing prize sponsorship.
